BRAND STORY
In 2006, at the age of 22, Rosie opened her first business - a humble sunbed shop called Brown Cow. Located in the bottom half of a terraced house on Halliwell Road, the space was small, but Rosie’s dreams were anything but. She managed to squeeze in three sunbeds, two nail desks, a tiny beauty room, and a cramped cupboard that she converted into a spray tan room. Little did Rosie know; this tiny space would eventually become the foundation for a global beauty brand.
Carmel, Rosie’s beauty apprentice, joined on the very first day, followed shortly by Sian, a part-time beauty therapist. All three were new to the world of business and beauty, but together, they poured their hearts and souls into creating a friendly, well-thought-out tanning company. Their passion paid off when Rosie had a chance meeting with a medical herbalist who inspired her to create her own spray tan solution. With the rise of spray tanning in the beauty industry, Rosie saw an opportunity to create the perfect fake tan and brand it as her own.
Determined, Rosie began training with Mr. G Alexander and her vision started to take shape.
Within the first year, business was thriving. Rosie was able to sell Brown Cow and move to a larger premises that allowed for the expansion of the business, now featuring a hair salon, a bigger spray tan room, and several beauty rooms. While setbacks were inevitable, Rosie and her team stayed focused on building a high-quality brand. From the very beginning, they recruited skilled team members who became integral to the business’s growth.
After years of trial and error, combined with a loyal customer base who were sprayed with countless handmade solutions, Rosie’s hard work began to pay off. In 2017, she partnered with an established chemist known in the UK tanning market to create a groundbreaking product: Nudity Aerosol, the world’s first cream-based aerosol tan in a can. This innovation took the beauty world by storm, and with a revamped website and a growing social media presence, Rose & Caramel began its rapid ascent.
From there, the business continued to evolve. Rosie launched self-tanners for every skin tone, as well as the world’s first fake tan remover, Purity Bubble Bath. Rose & Caramel quickly became a beauty favourite, earning recognition from top magazines like Vogue, Marie Claire, and Woman & Home. The brand has since won over 50 beauty awards and is stocked in major retailers like Boots, PrettyLittleThing, BeautyBay, and ASOS. It is also the number-one selling fake tan remover on Amazon UK.
Despite the global growth, the heart of the business remains the same: a thriving hair and beauty salon, which now serves as the base for new product lines aimed at salon professionals and customers to use at home.
Rosie recognises the importance of the incredible team she has built over the years, whose dedication has been vital to the company’s success. To ensure that future generations can benefit from the same opportunities, Rosie created the Rose & Caramel Academy. This initiative is focused on mentoring and training young people, teaching them that challenges can be transformed into opportunities, and inspiring them to see the potential in themselves.
Through it all, Rosie’s unwavering passion for beauty, innovation, and empowering others has been the driving force behind Rose & Caramel’s success. As the brand continues to grow and evolve, one thing remains certain: Rosie is determined to keep inspiring and giving back to the community that helped shape her dream into the global brand it is today.
